Traditionally, the technologies for workplace learning have been those that underpinned the formal, training approach,. In particular a Learning Management System has long been seen as the place to host and track access to online courses. More recently we have seen the emergence of LXPs (Learning Experience Platforms). However, the disadvantage of these system is that the precious content stored on them is locked away where it can not easily be seen or found. But as we have seen learning in the workplace doesn’t just take place through training but from the daily work, from interactions with colleagues and others, as well as from Web discovery, hence what is required is an ecosystem of tools that can support the 4 Ds of Learning.
In this section we will look at the role of the LMS in the modern workplace, what a modern workplace learning technology ecosystem looks like, and how to create a Learning & Performance hub.
