In Here’s How Google Knows in Less Than 5 Minutes if a New Employee Will Get Off to the Perfect Start (Inc, 10 May 2021) Jeff Haden explains that after running a number of surveys and experiments, Google developed a list of five simple onboarding tips for managers. To keep things simple — and serve as a handy reminder — the company emailed those tips to managers the night before a new employee started. Here they are:
- Match the new hire with a peer buddy
- Help the new hire build a social network
- Set up employee onboarding check-ins once a month for the new hire’s first six months
- Encourage open dialogue
- Meet your new hires on their first day.
The sub-title of this article summarises the conclusions of this article as “Oddly enough, the difference lies in what the manager does–not the employee.” So how are you helping managers make the difference in effective onboarding of their people?
