Creating online courses and resources 16% 47% 34% 3% 1
Designing & delivering classroom training 23% 47% 27% 3% 2

Helping individuals learn from their daily work 36% 37% 23% 4% 7
Running live virtual training sessions 57% 31% 11% 1% 8

These results show that traditional training and content development is still the main priority focus of L&D departments – with No 1 priority being creating online courses and resources. But what about future priorities?

Short-term future priorities

Helping individuals become independent continuous learners 1% 11% 51% 37% 1
Helping individuals learn from their daily work 2% 13% 54% 31% 2
Supporting knowledge sharing in teams and groups 3% 13% 56% 28% 3

Curating content and web opportunities 8% 35% 47% 10% 5
Creating online courses and resources 13% 51% 30% 6% 6
Running webinars and online training sessions 26% 58% 23% 3% 7
Designing & delivering classroom training 28% 62% 9% 1% 8

What these results show is that L&D respondents would like, in the near future to spend

  • LESS time on designing and delivering classroom training, and creating content and online courses,
  • MORE time on curating content and web opportunities, helping managers develop their teams AND helping individuals learn from daily work AND supporting knowledge sharing
  • with the MOST significant increase in time being spent at helping individuals becoming independent continuous learners – which becomes the No 1 short-term future priority.

There is therefore a clear desire to move forward from designing and delivering training to enabling and supporting learning in many other ways across the organisation.
